CLIG wishes you all a Happy New Year and is pleased to present details of the first seminar for 2009..

Researching the credit crisis - how information units can help steer a course through troubled waters.

The $50bn Madoff Ponzi scheme fraud recently hit the headlines. It demonstrates shortcomings in business research by several huge banks failing to spot risk they were opening themselves up to.

Effective business research not only shields an organisation from risk, but can assist it in finding its way through turbulent financial scenarios such as the current credit crisis.

CLIG is delighted that Sylvia James, author, expert in business research and recent recipient of the ALA's Excellence in Business Librarianship Award, has agreed to speak on the subject and will detail what information units can and should be doing. Sylvia has forty years of business research experience, the last twenty as an independent management and research consultant.

The hour long talk, including time for questions, will be given in three parts:

Part one - will explain how the credit crunch came about and how money markets are supposed to function

Part two - will cover the issues IS departments ought to be picking up on and how these units can proactively assist their employing firms

Part three - will detail the sources IS units might best use and how team members can keep themselves up to date in this rapidly changing environment

You are warmly invited to attend this topical, practical talk; in particular if you wish to learn how you can increase the value you add to your firm and raise the profile of your business research unit.
