“John Sheridan, the Digital Director of the National Archives will tell us about their new official judgments portal. Described by the Law Society Gazette as a “comprehensive online archive of ’judgments as data’’” it has been designed with its own “legal document markup language” to aid legal data insight generation.

This informative talk is hot off the press, John will share key points about the service before it is even officially launched. He’ll cover:

• Why has this service been created and for whom?
• What will be the scope of the product resource and how will it grow over time?
• Who are the intended users?
• How will this differ from BAILII / where do the two interconnect?
• Which issues are still being grappled with? What policies are still being debated over?
• How are the documents being encoded and what does this mean for digital legal data going forward, what are the possibilities? How does this fit into the development of other parliamentary materials?

The CLIG membership year runs from the 1st April to the 31st March, and the committee are now inviting current members to renew their memberships online. To do this you will need to log in to the Members Area using your email address and CLIG password. Once logged in you will see an option to pay by card on the initial page under the Membership Status section. You can pay here with your debit or credit card. Alternatively you may arrange other payment methods directly with our Membership Secretary, Philip Cable.

New members wishing to join CLIG, will need fill out the CLIG Membership Form on the Join Us! Page first.

Benefits of CLIG membership include opportunities to network with other information professionals, updates on meetings and events planned throughout the year, and priority attendance for certain events.
