Legal researchers are often asked to help find Parliamentary debates and background materials on legislation, but how is this material used and what sources are admissible to help interpret the law? CLIG is delighted to welcome Daniel Greenberg, lawyer, author and former Parliamentary counsel, to demystify this complex topic. Issues discussed will include: the basic rules of statutory interpretation and the conflicts which arise; Pepper v Hart and external aids to construction, the developing case law on statutory interpretation and the position with the devolved parliaments and assemblies.
There will be an opportunity to network over a glass of wine after the seminar.
